CR1 TARGETED VACCINES

Complement receptors on red blood cells play an important role in the clearance of pathogens from the blood stream. These receptors are also present on antigen presenting cells (APCs) of the immune system including B lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages and follicular dendritic cells.
Studies performed at Elusys have generated data to suggest that targeting antigens to CR1 receptors may enhance antigen presentation and recognition. Further studies are currently underway to better understand the role that CR1 receptors may play in adaptive immune responses to pathogens and foreign antigens.
